When talking about wood products there are two important things to think about:
1) What level of formaldehyde is emitted from the product
2) Does the wood come from environmentally responsible forest management practices?
1) Formaldehyde Levels
Carter Holt Harvey Woodproducts offers a range of products that meet low formaldehyde emission standards according to AS/NZA 1859.2.
The following products are available in E0 or E1 MDF substrate and E1 Particleboard substrate:
Bestwood Melamine
Bestwood Natural Wood Veneer
Bestwood Reconstituted Wood Veneer
Bestwood Vinyl
Bestwood Foil
Green Star rating: 1 point awarded where it is demonstrated that all composite wood products is low emission formaldehyde - both E1 & E0 products fit this criteria
2) Responsible Forest Management Practices
Carter Holt Harvey Woodproducts is progressively securing independent certification through the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC). This certifies that products are manufactured from well managed forest resources, qualifying buildings to achieve a 5 star rating. The full range of FSC products will be listed once all audits have been completed - watch this space for updates.
Green Star rating: 2 points awarded where it is demonstrated that all timber and composite timber products used in the building and construction works are sourced from Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified timber
3) Threatened species policy
Carter Holt Harvey Woodproducts have a policy regarding threatened and endangered tree species.
Carter Holt Harvey takes their lead from a publication 'The World List of threatened Trees'. This publication is issued internationally and lists species that are becoming threatened through different reasons. The publication is available via the following contact;
